Sowing

That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. 3 Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.” Mathew 13 1-9

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

It is an honor for me to spread the Gospel amongst you today. Today we read a well-known parable—the parable regarding the Sower. Recently I did startup my own ministries. It is comparable to sowing. Just like you, I start small. Only my faith and trust in God are with me. No guarantee it would be successful—only God’s promise. Actually, God did challenge me to start sowing. He challenged me also to preach. I am moreover a teacher, a leadership teacher, but God asks me also to start preaching. Again I may be sowing.

Thinking over this Bible word on Friday, it became me more clear. Once God starts calling us, for example, we start to believe in His Words, or starting a ministry, everything starts with trust and believing that God will make grand all of His promises. Doing God’s will, even once God calls us, will not be an easy job. Usually, it will take time before our work will be bearing fruit. Before we get a visual of the fulfillment of God’s promises.

In the parable, we do read the work of sowing. As we could read, not all seed was ending up into crops. Once the farmer was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. However, when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still, other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.

This would be an essential lesson for us. Once we start the work of our new Job vividly, starting with the work of our callings, start living as believers, we could think there will be all blessings from the moment we start doing our tasks. Moreover, there is no doubt whether God will bless His own work because He has called us to do so. Even the Bible is clear about this word. God shall not abandon the work that His hands have started.

Nevertheless, still…, not all the work we startup is from that very moment a success. Sometimes it takes time to grown, to produce crops. Moreover, from there, I do not talk in minutes, nor hours. It could take months, even years, before our work would produce crops.

How would we respond to such a delay? Even God had called us to start believing in his name or even to start working in His Kingdom. So in our opinion, there should be a production of crops on concise notice. However, what if it would not be in that concise notice? Do we start blaming ourselves? Maybe even blaming God? Or could we accept that our work needs time to produce a mature crop?

In my personal life, I have to deal with a similar issue. Even I did understand from your leaders that they face a similar issue. This joint issue is related to money. Money is needed to run the ministries both in Pakistan as in Holland. God made it very clear. He called your leaders, your pastors, your teachers. So did God to me. He called me to start up Redeem Global Ministries. Moreover, we act accordingly, God’s Words. Your leaders became pastors and teachers. Redeem is founded.

As I said, I did startup Redeem Global Ministries. However, lots of funding is still needed to let grownup both ministries, even for the scheduled healing meeting of next month here in Pakistan. There is always a need for money as we start working in this modern world because every single act is related to money. This is the same thing in Pakistan as in Europe. Maybe we are blinded by all the Successories of ministries that successfully started, but all ministries had faced this same issue the very moment they start working. How do we get the money to make this work done? Of course, if it is God’s work, God will provide for all our needs. However, we are still human. We still have our needs…

The fortunes are never there at the start of the work of God. Moreover, becoming rich with working in the Kingdom of Heaven is not the will of God. In Isaiah 55, we read something about this: “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Nevertheless, this Bible verse does not talk about renting a van for our road trip, nor about the moment needed for a sound system, food, and other meeting costs. This Bible vers does even not talk about the cost needed for studying in the Bible school. To found a foundation. To run a foundation… However, it teaches us to be entirely dependent on God. Even if we do not have any money, we can always rely on God. In all our needs.

Moreover, God promises us always to give us what we needed; the scripture teaches us about this subject as well: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you, by worrying, add a single hour to your life? “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Mattew 6: 25-34).

It seems Jesus wants to say something different with this parable. Of course, Jesus orders us to sow, to spread His Word. To start up the work God orders us to do. To start believing. To start following. However, it is not only depending on the effort of a human. Your effort. Mine effort. We need to confess that every single success in the Kingdom of Heaven starts with praying and believing. Sometimes our prayers will be answered at once. However, many, maybe even most of our prayers, takes time. Time to be granted by God. It seems, at least it feels for me, God will test our steadfastness. Are we determent to do everything God asked us to do? Even if it takes time to produce crops? Even it takes lots of us to produce crops? Or do we prefer the easy way? A calling of God, a short undedicated prayer of us, and from there we will produce a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. I learned throughout my life that following Jesus is never an easy way.

Reviewing my own life, it has never worked out in that way. I need to confess that sometimes that feeling of God’s absence is really disappointing me. Nevertheless, is God the absent one, or do I simply not hear His whisperings? His guidance? Furthermore, from there, I chose my chosen ways. We are convinced that doing God’s will, Doing God’s work, will produce many crops. Nevertheless, the question is, how did we sowing? Are the ways we following really God’s chosen ways? Or do we choose our own life path?

Another question is related to the seeds themselves. Moreover, where exactly did the seed landed? Did the seed end up in fertile soil? Or on the path beside the field? Or did the births ate the seed? Reviewing this scripture word, we learn many bad things could be happening with our seed. Furthermore, for some, we are even not accountable for ourselves. We cannot control this world. We cannot fully control our own life. In all actions and works, we are entirely dependent on God. On His blessings.

Therefore we could only do one thing. Praying God will bless our actions. However, also to guide us on His path with our personal life. When we let God in charge of all parts of our lives, we have no guarantee that every single action of us will be blessed at once. Nevertheless, God promised us throughout His word that we will produce a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. In time, we will be withness of those blessings in our personal lives and our ministries.’

What is Jesus asking us to do in this parable? Do not respond on any call of God as long we do not have a sign, nor a blessing, maybe even still not have the needed funds? No. that is not what Jesus ask us to do. Jesus asks us to believe. To trust God. To start working on His command. To be loyal workers in His Vineyard, in the Kingdom of Heaven. Furthermore, just like with the vine tree, the fruit will not be there once it is blossoming season. It takes time, and it takes care of the workers to harbors a great harvest. Our working tools are reading the Scriptures and committing daily to our prayers, talking with our brothers and sisters in Christ, sharing our dreams and visions.

Furthermore, ask our brothers and sisters to pray with us. Moreover, we shall pray with them on their dreams and visions. From there, we make the Holey spirit able to work throughout us. From there, God will be grant all of His promises in our lives. Furthermore, for sure, we will produce a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown!

Amen
